Certified Sex Therapist
Dr. Groessl is a licensed psychologist and certified sex therapist who maintains
an active clinical practice in Muskegon, Michigan. She is an experienced therapist
who has been in practice for over twenty-five years.
With a calm personal style, Dr. Groessl has been successfully helping people deal
with concerns they have in many areas of their lives. Her philosophy is one of self
empowerment. With patience and guidance, she believes people can learn skills needed
to live richer and more satisfying lives. She believes in treating people with respect
and dignity.
She enjoys working with adults (and some children and adolescents) in individual,
couple, family and group therapy. Her areas of focus include depression, anxiety,
survivors of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, adoption, and those seeking personal
growth and understanding.
One of Dr. Groessl's main areas of focus is helping couples improve and enhance
their relationships. Because most marriages and other relationships aren't
perfect, she facilitates building a strong foundation based on each person's ideas,
values, opinions and personal history. She teaches couples about the science and
art of love based on the research of John Gottman, PhD. She helps couples build
a foundation of affection and friendship and to how to better handle disagreements.
Differences can be complementary and Dr. Groessl works with people to respect and
understand differences. Distress in a relationship can be very destructive for both
people. Distress can cause stress, worry, fear, sadness, loneliness and other problems.
Happily married people live longer and are more contented with their lives. Additionally,
one of her main areas of focus is helping couples improve and enhance their relationships.
Additionally, Dr. Groessl specializes in the treatment of sexual difficulties and
is a certified sex therapist. Sex therapy is a professional and ethical treatment
approach to problems of sexual function and expression. She is a Diplomate Certified
Sex Therapist certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors
and Therapists (AASECT). In sex therapy, she helps people overcome the emotional,
physical, medical and relationship concerns that can interfere with good sex. Sex
therapy can help enhance a sense of well being, enrich life and add warmth and intimacy
to a relationship. Common areas addressed in sex therapy include: lack of desire
and desire discrepancies, rapid ejaculation, difficulty getting or maintaining an
erection, aversion to sex, inability to achieve an orgasm, painful intercourse or
inability to have intercourse, and difficulty becoming aroused.
Group therapy is another area of interest to Dr. Groessl. She runs groups for women
and men on a variety of issues. One group she leads is on sexual enhancement. The
women-only groups are held on a weekly basis for 12 week sessions through-out the
year. They provide an opportunity for women to learn and grow with the help and
encouragement of other women.
She has a BA in Elementary Education, a MA in Counseling and Personnel and an EDD
